More about the Software Engineering: AI Training Specialist role at Hatch AI Join our talent network for software engineers to get matched with flexible, well-paid AI training work. Summary We're looking for people with real software engineering experience, whether that's backend, frontend, full-stack, mobile, data, DevOps, or a closely related discipline, to help train the next generation of AI. The work is fully remote, flexible, and pays $40 to $100 per hour, with no minimum commitment.
You'll use your engineering expertise to design rigorous problems and evaluate AI-generated code and reasoning for correctness, helping AI better understand how software is actually built. No prior AI or machine learning experience is required.
You apply once to join the talent network, complete a short assessment, and then get matched to paid projects as they become available. It's work you can do alongside study or a full-time job.
The process Here's how it works from application to project:
- Apply through Hatch to join the talent network.
- Complete an assessment so we can understand your background and skills.
- Get accepted into the Hatch AI program if successful.
- Get matched: when a suitable opportunity comes up, you're placed into a cohort and matched to a project.
- Get trained and contribute: you'll be onboarded and work directly with a leading AI lab.
We match people to opportunities on a rolling basis, so the sooner you join, the sooner you're eligible.
Why this is worth your time
- Well paid: projects pay $40 to $100 per hour, reflecting the value of genuine engineering expertise.
- Truly flexible: set your own hours and work from anywhere. No minimum commitment; most contributors do around 5 to 20 hours per week when on an active project.
- Fits around your life: ongoing, project-based work you can do alongside study or full-time employment.
- Shape the future: your expertise directly influences how AI writes, reads, and reasons about code.
- No AI background needed: if you know how to build software, we'll teach you the rest.
About The Role Note: This role is not with Hatch. It is for our partner AI lab. Hatch sources, screens, and supports the Australian contributors who join.
Contribute to cutting-edge AI research through flexible, casual, part-time work. You'll draw on your engineering knowledge to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI better understand software workflows, outputs, and problems.
This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity that fits around study or full-time work.
What you'll be working on
- Using your software engineering experience to design rigorous, domain-relevant problems and review AI-generated code and explanations for correctness, quality, and best practice. No prior AI or machine learning experience is required.
- Fully remote work with a flexible, asynchronous schedule and no minimum hour requirement. Most contributors work approximately 5 to 20 hours per week when participating in an active project.
- Placement depends on current project needs, with opportunities to be considered for future projects as they become available.
Who we're looking for You don't need to tick every box. If you have solid software engineering experience and care about doing careful work, we'd love to hear from you.
A background in software engineering or a related field Students, graduates, or professionals with experience across any language or stack, including backend, frontend, full-stack, mobile, data, DevOps, or closely related areas. We're open to many different engineering backgrounds.
Engagement and motivation You participate actively, ask questions, and show genuine interest in the work and in learning new apps and tools.
Openness to feedback You take feedback without defensiveness, quickly fold it into your next attempt, and seek clarification when you're unsure.
Strong written English You write clearly and naturally, and can explain your reasoning and justifications in your own words. You communicate regularly and respond promptly.
Attention to detail You follow written instructions precisely, spot inconsistencies or errors, and stick to guidelines without cutting corners.
Strong computer literacy You navigate web apps and development tools confidently, can search and filter to find specific records, and pick up new interfaces quickly.
Integrity You complete your own work and don't rely on AI tools to generate your code, justifications, or application answers.
